Every figure here is computed, not collected
Nothing on this site is a crowdsourced estimate or an editorial top ten. Each tool runs a published dataset — World Bank, IMF, OECD, Eurostat, WHO, HUD — through an engine you can call yourself, and every JSON response carries a citation naming the source and the year it refers to. Where a figure is modelled rather than measured, the page says so.
Each tool above has a free JSON API and an MCP tool, listed on the card. See how it works or the ranked answers if you would rather start from a shortlist than a calculator.
Not sure which tool to start with? Ask the adviser what matters to you (Pro), and it will work through these figures for you.

Where is it pleasant right now?
Cost rankings ignore the weather entirely, which makes them a poor guide to where you would want to spend a year. A comfortable day here means a daily maximum between 18 and 27 °C with under 1 mm of rain — measured from ERA5 reanalysis, 2016–2025.
That band is a preference, not a verdict: it is temperate-biased, and somewhere hot scores badly on terms it never agreed to. The average high is shown beside every row so you can disagree with it.

What could go wrong there?
INFORM Risk, from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre: exposure to earthquakes, floods, cyclones, drought and conflict, together with whether institutions could actually respond. Two countries can face the same hazard and have entirely different outcomes, and it is usually that second half which decides which.
Reported on its own and never folded into the cost or livability rankings. If you are comparing rent, you have not asked to have earthquake exposure quietly weighted into the answer.

Could you buy a home there?
Whether a foreigner may own residential property outright, only under conditions, only as a lease or condominium, or not at all — with the main restrictions and the headline transfer tax a buyer pays. Hand-curated from official pages; each entry carries the page it was read from and the date. Not legal advice.
🇹🇭 Thailand
- Foreign ownership
- Leasehold or condo only (no land)
- Restrictions
- Foreigners may not own land; condominium units may be owned freehold up to 49% of a building's floor area, and land is held on a 30-year registrable lease (a 2025 proposal to extend to 99 years was withdrawn).
- Transfer tax
- 2% — Transfer fee 2% of the appraised value, plus specific business tax 3.3% or stamp duty 0.5% on the seller.
- Source
- dol.go.th · 2026-09-05 (secondary)
- Published rules and conditions as read from the named sources on the dates shown, for information only. This is not legal or immigration advice; rules change by decree and by region, and how one applies to a person depends on facts this tool does not hold. Confirm with the authority before acting.
- Bands summarise a country's main rule; regions, border zones, farmland and holiday-home quotas carry their own. Transfer tax is the headline buyer's duty only — notary, registration and agent fees, VAT on new builds and non-resident surcharges are in the note where they matter.

- A ranking of published figures against the weights given, not a recommendation. Essentials are modelled; the quality metrics are measured and each has its own source year.
- Quality uses the livability figures (World Bank, WHO, Cloudflare Radar); cost uses the modelled essentials basket. JSON
