Cost-of-living rankings ignore the weather, which makes them a poor guide to where you would want to spend a year. This ranks 84 cities on measured comfort: days with a maximum between 18 and 27 °C and under 1 mm of rain.

## Questions

- **What counts as a comfortable day?**: A daily maximum between 18 and 27°C with under 1mm of rain, counted from ERA5 reanalysis over 2016–2025 and averaged across those years. It is a stated preference, not a fact about weather.
- **Why does somewhere hot and sunny score badly?**: Because the band is temperate-biased, deliberately and openly. Chiang Mai scores poorly here and people move there on purpose. The average high sits beside every row precisely so you can disagree with the definition rather than take the ranking's word for it — if you want heat, read the temperature column and ignore the ordering.
- **Why cities rather than countries?**: A country does not have one climate. Averaging a desert with a glacier describes nowhere at all, so this ranks 84 cities and country lookups name the representative city they used.
- **Is this a forecast?**: No. These are climate normals — what the last ten years actually did, not what next week will do. Refreshed 2026-09-20. Use it to choose a month and a place, not to decide whether to take a coat.
