# Where has money moved between banks in seconds the longest?

Finland leads on live since at 1990; Bahrain is last of the 15 shown at 2015.

An instant payment system is what makes rent, a salary or a market stall settle in seconds rather than days, and how long one has been running is a fair proxy for how much of daily life runs on it. The oldest here predate the smartphone era by a decade.

The year is the scheme's own implementation year as reported to the World Bank by the operator or regulator. Where a country runs more than one scheme, the earliest is used; the euro area's shared schemes date from the SEPA instant rollout rather than from any one country's earlier system.

A country absent from this ranking is absent from the tracker, which is not the same as having no instant payments.
