# Where does a $100k remote salary go furthest?

A $100,000 salary is not a standard of living. What it buys depends on rent, the price of an ordinary week, how much healthcare comes out of your own pocket, and how much of the salary you never see because it goes in tax. This ranks countries on what is left after all four, not on a cost-of-living index.

The figures below are what a single person on $8,333 a month keeps. Tax is income tax plus employee social contributions on that income, at the standard rate — special regimes some countries offer remote workers are not assumed, because most people do not qualify for them on day one.
